ABOUT US

Boulderthon, presented by lululemon, is a 501(c)(3) community nonprofit founded in 2021 by Phil Dumontet with a simple goal: to bring a world-class marathon to one of the greatest running hubs in the world. In only its fifth year, the 2025 edition of Boulderthon generated an estimated economic impact of $22.8 million in direct and indirect economic impact.

In just five years, Boulderthon has grown from 1,600 participants to more than 15,000 participants from around the globe - making it one of the fastest-growing races in the United States. It was recently recognized by USA Today as one of the Top 10 races in America.

Beyond race weekend, Boulderthon is deeply committed to giving back. The organization provides 250+ community bibs each year to ensure access for those who otherwise could not participate, leads ongoing volunteer and environmental adoption efforts with Tom Watson Park, hosts free women’s safety seminars, and invests in year-round community events that strengthen Boulder’s running culture.

It is a Boston Marathon Qualifying (BQ), USATF Sanctioned Event, measured by a Level A USATF Course Measurer, representing the highest level of certification for a marathon race. The race offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K and children’s races.  For more information, visit www.boulderthon.org.

We believe:

Phil Dumontet

Founder

Phil Dumontet lives life in the fast lane. Starting his first company on his bike, he founded and grew Dashed to the largest privately-owned restaurant delivery platform in the Northeast, culminating in a sale to Grubhub.

As an avid runner, Phil moved from New York to Boulder in 2017 with the vision of starting a world-class marathon in Boulder, in a new signature downtown format that’s never been done before. After lobbying community stakeholders for 4 years on the benefits & power of this community event, he produced the first edition in 2021 with 1600 runners. This year, Boulderthon, which is now the premier fall race series in Colorado and one of the fastest-growing marathons in the country, drew 15,000 runners from all 50 states and 18 countries to the beautiful running mecca of Boulder.

Phil is a 17-time marathoner with a PR of 2:42, and routinely finishes in the top 20 in his age group. Phil was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30, and is a contributor to Forbes, Inc. Magazine, The Washington Post, & The Huffington Post.

Heather Hasz

Volunteer & Registration Coordinator

Heather relocated from Boston to Colorado in the Summer of 2022 - so while she may be new to the area, she is no stranger to running, races, or community engagement. Heather served as both President of the Greater Lowell Road Runners and Marketing Director for the Baystate Marathon. She brings with her a strong understanding of community engagement as well as high energy, excitement, and a wealth of experience to contribute as a member of our team and to make this race a real destination for runners from all over.

WHY YOU RUN: Running has always been a time for me when I can be myself; when my kids were younger it was 'my time' to clear my head, focus my thoughts for the day and leave anything I need to out on the road. Anyone can be a runner - if you run, you are a runner.

PR RACE: 2019 Baystate Half Marathon

WHY BOULDERTHON®: Boulderthon was the first 10K I ran after I moved here last year and I loved it so much - I raised my hand to help create the best that Boulder running has to offer!

Cara Kelly

Head of Executive Operations

Cara comes to us from the east coast. Having grown up in Northern Jersey near the Appalachian, she was very eager to move to Colorado to experience these beautiful mountains. Since she’s only been here a few months, she’s been having a blast getting to know all the hidden gems locally. She loves spending her time hiking, biking and everything in between.

Since Cara has been running and competing in athletics most of her life, she was very eager to start working with Boulderthon. She competed in soccer as well as track & field and continued to pole vault at the collegiate level at the College of Saint Rose. Since then, she’s enjoyed competing in obstacle races and half marathons. She continues to work towards her goal of completing a full marathon and inspiring others to do the same!

WHY YOU RUN: Running is something I love to do to explore new places and to continue to improve myself. I love finding new trails and seeing unique things just around the corner.
